Our series through the teachings of Jesus brought us to a passage in Matthew 7:28 which revealed an amazement by the “hearers.” This passage is the first of four passages where this word occurs following an interaction with a person or a group by Jesus. In this passage from Matthew 19 Jesus relates to a rich young man who asks the question, “Good Master, what good thing should I do that I may have eternal life?” After Jesus points the man to a decision of selling off all of his riches and following Him the disciples are “amazed” ( our word ).. Their response to Jesus is “who then can be saved.”
