In this miracle, Jesus casts out a demon that has been keeping a man from speaking. Matthew contrasts the previous miracle which was giving sight to two blind men with this one. Jesus purposely healed the two men in private but now heals this mute man in public. The public is stirred up in their opinions about what happened, and the Pharisees begin spreading the lie that Jesus is empowered by Satan.
