Spiritual Adoption
It is your adoption day, a day you’ve long awaited.
It is not unlike your spiritual adoption day.
There was a time, long ago, before you were even conceived,
when God, your Heavenly Father,
longed for you to be a part of His family.
He knew that the family into which you were born
could never be all that He intended it to be.
He knew that you would long for something more.
And so, He provided a way
for you to be a member of His forever family.
He did all that He could to prepare for you.
His justice demanded that you appear
in the heavenly court before Him and plead your case.
He offered to provide for you all that you longed for ~
a love that willingly sacrificed for you,
a faithful love that reached out through time
to draw you close, a commitment to satisfy your every need.
It was hard for you to trust Him,
for you learned through early life experience,
not to trust, but to depend only on yourself.
To risk letting go of all that was familiar was a monumental task.
How could you expect of this unknown God
what those closest were unwilling, or unable, to give?
A part of you wanted to embrace His extended offer of adoption;
another part feared that those to whom you were born
would fight to keep you in relationship with them,
that what appeared so inviting could never be.
But you decided to risk ~
risk breaking the chains that bound you to a relationship that offered nothing but pain.
And when you did, He reached out and
lovingly pulled you into His warm embrace,
letting you know
that your need and your willingness to accept Him
as Savior and Lord, the only things you could provide,
were all that you needed to bring to the relationship.
The Judge determined that adoption was in your best interest
and signed the decree.
God called you “My child.”
You called Him “Father.”
His choice made your choice possible.
Your choice brought into completion His dream!
